07 May May 2024 is Off to a Stormy Start
Spring Storm Season
Since 2006, Quality Exteriors has been helping customers with roof and exterior damage caused by Middle Tennessee’s spring storms. Strong Spring storms over the past two years have impacted many residents across our region and this year is shaping up to be similar. Since there could be a real threat of tornadoes, hail, and damaging winds, it’s important to be prepared for the worst. Here are some important tips to ensure that you are prepared for unexpected storms in our area.
Warning Systems and Signs
First and foremost, know your community’s warning system. There are different ways to notify people about tornadoes and dangerous storms. Some communities use sirens which provide outdoor warning. Make sure you know how to get the information you need when storms are approaching. It is also a good idea to ensure that your cell phone’s settings are turned on to receive Emergency Alerts.
Make sure you know the warning signs of an approaching tornado. Dark, greenish clouds, a wall cloud, or a cloud of debris are all signs that a catastrophic storm is possible. Remember that a Tornado Watch means a tornado is possible. A Tornado Warning means a tornado has been sighted and you need to immediately go to your safe place. Make sure you bring your animals indoors.
Have a Safe Place
When large hail and damaging winds are in the forecast, everyone needs to identify a place where you can gather your family – this can be a basement, a storm cellar, or an interior room or hallway on the lowest floor of your home. Make sure everyone knows the location of your safe place, and always allow time for everyone to get there when a bad storm is approaching. If you live in a mobile home, IT IS NOT SAFE during a tornado so have a plan to seek alternate shelter in a nearby sturdy building.
Secure Outdoor Items
The winds associated with strong storms and tornadoes can pick up and carry off items that are not secured. These flying objects can cause injury to other people and property. Make sure you secure everything that could blow away by bringing it indoors, if possible.
Impacted by Hail
Many areas in our region were impacted by large hail yesterday. We have already had calls requesting inspections from people in several local communities. Our Roof Ninjas are out in full force performing inspections. So far, the hardest hit areas include Lebanon, Bell Buckle, College Grove, and Fairview. If you are in one of these areas and are concerned about potential hail damage to your structures, don’t delay in getting a professional inspection by a qualified roofing contractor like Quality Exteriors. As always, there is no cost for one of our Roof Ninjas to perform a thorough inspection after storms. Call us at 615-216-6455.
